MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has reiterated his support for a swift peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, stressing that any agreement must be accompanied by reliable guarantees. Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with Governor of Russia’s Moscow Oblast Andrei Vorobyov in Minsk on 25 June, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian leader reaffirmed his position: “Peace and only peace. But with full guarantees that they will not play games with us and, as Putin says, will not be able to deceive us once again. Because deceiving Russia would, first and foremost, affect Belarus. We are on the front edge of our common homeland, and we are well aware of that.”
The head of state also stated that Ukraine is being used as a bargaining chip in a big game. “It is not really about Ukraine. You know what it is really about and who is ultimately fighting whom. So we need to sort this out and advance our own interests. Neither Belarus nor Russia needs this [war to continue],” the president said.
