DAILY REPORT
On Tuesday, the fire brigade and police went out to several fires – including a burning sofa in Nuuk.
Tuesday morning at At 08.10 the police received a report that a day care center in Tasiilaq had been broken into during the night.
This is what duty manager Thomas Jeppesen says in his review of the events of the past 24 hours.
One or more perpetrators had smashed a window in the daycare to get in, and there were traces of the burglars rummaging around inside the institution.
The loot for the thieves was approximately DKK 100 in pawn bottles, says the warden.
Fire in Sofa
At noon at At 13.04 the police received an unusual report from a citizen in Nuuk who had observed a sofa on fire in the area in front of the fire station.
The fire brigade was naturally on the scene quickly and extinguished the burning sofa, from which a lot of smoke was coming.
The police do not immediately suspect that the sofa was set on fire on purpose.
At At 15.09 there was a report from the airport in Nuuk, where the customs officers had detained a passenger because a drug dog had marked the passenger’s suitcase.
In the suitcase, the customs officers found a small amount of hash, which was hidden in some skin care products.
The female passenger was arrested, questioned and subsequently released. She remains charged in the case.
Container on fire in Nanortalik
In South Greenland, too, the authorities had to respond to a fire. At 16.02 a report was received from Nanortalik, where it was the fire service itself that reported a fire near the fire station.
It turned out that there was a fire in a container used for storing spare parts.
– Out on the scene, you find some objects in the form of a lighter and some cardboard, and a witness has seen some young people/children running from the scene, says Thomas Jeppesen.
The police’s hypothesis is that the children have been playing with fire, and thus the container caught fire.
– We do not have any suspects, but we are of course interested in hearing from any witnesses, says the warden.
The warden can also say that during the night two motorists were stopped in Nuuk who blew the breathalyzer above the permitted limit and were therefore arrested and charged with drink driving.
