The ship with emergency generators arrived at Uummannaq about an hour ago. Citizens must limit their consumption of electricity and avoid turning on e.g. washing machine, tumble dryer, etc. so that the electricity supply is not overloaded in the first period, reports Nukissiorfiit.
The ship with equipment is arrived at Uummannaq about an hour ago.
Nukissiorfiit’s employees have now started unloading the equipment and preparing the necessary repairs to the city’s power plant. The next step is to get the equipment installed and connected so that the work of gradually restoring the electricity supply to the rest of the city can begin. Nukissiorfiit states this on its website.
– In connection with the repair and connection work, there may be short-term and local interruptions in the electricity supply. This is necessary to be able to carry out the work safely and as quickly as possible, it says.
Save on electricity
The largest part of Uummannaq has been without power since Monday morning after a fire in the town’s power plant. Equipment was sent from Ilulissat on Monday evening so that the re-establishment of electricity supply in the city could be initiated. However, Avannaata Kommunia has set the old community center as a warming room, where citizens can get electricity, water and heat and cook food if needed.
A third of the city has received power since yesterday. But now that the re-establishment of electricity supply to the rest of the city has started, this may mean small power outages along the way.
– Our employees are working around the clock to restore full electricity supply to the city as soon as possible.
– Nukissiorfiit also encourages citizens to limit their electricity consumption as much as possible while the work is taking place. Please avoid using particularly power-hungry appliances such as electric radiators, tumble dryers, dishwashers and other equipment with high energy consumption, unless necessary. This will help to ensure a more stable supply while the work to restore the electricity supply continues, says Nukissiorfiit.
