In the Parliament, a public hearing of the Commission for Defense and Security was held today dedicated to the draft law on weapons, which provides for the regulation of the conditions for the acquisition, possession, carrying and transfer, storage, production, repair, incapacitation, sale, mediation, transfer, transportation and transfer across the state border of weapons, their parts and ammunition.
The MP from the ruling VMRO-DPMNE, Brane Petrushevski, defended the proposal with the argument that it is in line with the legislation of the European Union.
– The proposed legal solution is harmonized with the relevant legislation of the European Union and represents a step towards further improvement of the national legal framework in this area – Petrushevski said.
Among the more important changes that are proposed is the limitation of the number of weapons that can be owned by a natural person — to a maximum of ten.
The representative of the Chamber of Private Security noted that his organization was not consulted about the changes and reacted to the shortened validity of the permit, which, with the changes, is doubled from ten years to five.
The Arms Group at the Chamber of Commerce welcomed the proposed changes, but indicated that they would entail certain administrative costs for the companies.
Some of the experts present at the public hearing expressed a remark and appeal that in the legal solution a more specific definition of sports weapons and their use should be made.
The law on weapons was adopted in 2005 and in 20 years it has been amended and supplemented 15 times.
