KUWAIT CITY, Jun 11: Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Thursday that it has submitted a third formal protest letter to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), condemning what it described as continued hostile actions targeting aviation infrastructure at Kuwait International Airport.
According to the DGCA, the latest incident involved damage to the airport’s radar system earlier in the day, resulting in serious repercussions for the safety and continuity of civil aviation operations. The authority said the attack caused injuries and significant material damage, including losses affecting radar facilities, equipment, and air traffic management systems.
In response, Kuwait implemented precautionary and urgent operational measures, including a temporary partial suspension of air navigation services. The DGCA said operations were later restored in line with approved international aviation safety standards.
The authority stressed that repeated targeting of civil aviation infrastructure constitutes a serious violation of the Chicago Convention of 1944 and international regulations governing the safety and security of global air navigation. It warned that such actions place passengers, flight crews, and aviation workers at direct risk.
In its communication to ICAO, the DGCA urged the organization to take necessary measures within its mandate, document the violations, and assess their implications for regional and international aviation security.
Kuwait also reaffirmed its right to pursue all legal measures available under international law and relevant agreements in response to the incidents, emphasizing that it reserves full legal rights regarding the alleged aggressions.
