Ulaanbaatar, April 2, 2026 /MONTSAME/. A commemorative postage stamp titled “Mongolian
Cartoon” has been officially issued to mark the 90th anniversary of Tonshuul magazine, which has made a
significant contribution to Mongolia’s media and visual arts by artistically
depicting political and social life through satire and caricature.
The
first-day issue ceremony was held at the Rare Books Museum of the National
Library on April 1, 2026. This marks the first time in the history of Mongol Post that a stamp themed on satirical
cartoons has been released.
The
stamp features works created between 1960 and 2000 by prominent Mongolian
cartoonists, including Gursed A., Odgiiv V., Dorjgotov
Ts., Baidii Ts., Tsogtbayar S, and Bat-Erdene
A. Their works, known for social critique, satire, and humor,
collectively illustrate the evolution and distinctive features of Mongolia’s
satirical art.
At
the event, State Honored Cultural Figure and cartoonist Tsogtbayar Samandari noted that the 90-year
history was divided into three 30-year periods, with two influential artists
selected from each period for inclusion in the stamp, under the advisory
guidance of People’s Artist and researcher Baidii
Tseveg.
Artist
Baidii expressed appreciation for the
release, emphasizing that the selected artists represent the most influential
contributors of each period. He described the stamp as a significant milestone
in promoting Mongolian satirical cartoons both domestically and
internationally.
During
the ceremony, Mongol Post presented sample
stamps to cartoonists and the library director, while artists donated copies of
their works to the National Library’s collection.
Each
stamp in the six-stamp set is priced at MNT 2,000, with a total print run of
10,000 copies. A first-day cover is available at MNT 33,000, with 400 sets
released for sale.
