For the fifth consecutive year, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Venezuela is calling for the Ambassador for a Day contest, with which the British Government aims to make visible and promote the leadership of young Venezuelan women in favor of gender equality and other important issues.
The initiative seeks to contribute to the empowerment of young women through their participation in activities related to, for example: climate change, education, economic empowerment, human rights, innovation, diplomacy and gender equality, details the embassy press release.
Plus the opportunity to build networks and connections to push your ideas forward.
For Colin Dick, Head of Mission of the United Kingdom Embassy in Venezuela, “it is essential to create spaces to strengthen the leadership of girls and young people. Those leaderships that will allow us to end gender gaps and build a more just, sustainable and equal world.”
The call, open since April, will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 17.
The keys to participate in the contest
- Identify as a Venezuelan woman (cisgender, transgender, or binary person with feminine pronouns).
- Residing in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
- Be between 18 and 23 years old by June 24, 2026.
- Have a proven interest in gender and equality issues, including, but not limited to:
- The prevention and eradication of gender violence.
- Economic empowerment.
- Sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Disability and inclusion.
- Youth participation.
- Climate change.
- Sustainability.
- The preservation of nature and biodiversity.
- education and
- Diplomacy.
- Have the availability and capacity to dedicate one day of the last week of June 2026 to the contest activities.
- Send curriculum vitae (max. 1 page) to email (email protected)
- Complete a application form available on the social networks of the United Kingdom Embassy: @UKinVenezuela.
- And send a video of a maximum of one and a half minutes in length (90 seconds), following this indication: Choose one of the topics suggested in the fourth point and answer: What do you think are the main challenges that women and girls face in relation to that topic, and how are you contributing to addressing it? How do you think diplomacy could help improve the situation? The video must be recorded in Spanish and in vertical format (9:16).
According to the embassy bulletin, the results of the call will be announced the first week of June 2026.
They also explain that the contest activities, which will take place the last week of June 2026, will include a varied agenda that will allow the group of selected young Venezuelan women to:
- Accompany the Head of Mission of the United Kingdom in Venezuela, Colin Dick, in different activities typical of a diplomatic mission.
- Learn about the work of the British Embassy in Caracas in different areas.
- Participate in sessions dedicated to strengthening both your networks and your personal and professional capabilities.
- Record a message that will be disseminated through the social networks of the United Kingdom Embassy in Venezuela.

Roxana Sarmiento She is one of the 10 winners of the contest in 2024, which defines more than just an experience. “For me, it was a moment where I transcended as a human being, because I developed my professional and academic skills, sharing with empowered women and that contributed to my indigenous roots having an impact in an important space in Venezuelan society. Let’s be more powerful, let’s shine together from diversity!”
María Gabriela Carpio is one of the winners in 2025 and assures that the initiative changed her. “I understood that it is in our hands as young Venezuelans to transform our environment and, when we may think that we are alone on this not so simple path, these types of initiatives come where you meet other women who are traveling the same path as you.”
For Ana Julia Núñez, 2023 winner, “having been Ambassador for a day It was an unforgettable and enriching experience, both personally and professionally.
