Hoxha in meeting with Rutte: KFOR’s presence in Kosovo remains essential for the stability of the region

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, held a meeting with NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, where they discussed the current geopolitical situation and the role of the Alliance.
Hoxha said that the meeting comes at a time when Albania is taking on more commitments and responsibilities within NATO.
“We shared the view that in today’s increasingly complex and unpredictable security environment, NATO is more important and indispensable than ever. Strengthening collective defense, increasing defense spending, unwavering support for Ukraine, as well as expanding defense industrial capacities, remaining priorities for deterrence, stability, and transatlantic security,” said Hoxha.
According to him, Albania has consistently proven itself as a reliable and active ally, increasing investments in defense, modernizing the Armed Forces and participating in NATO missions.
He also stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine through NATO mechanisms, including training, assistance and long-term capacity-building.
Regarding the Western Balkans, Hoxha and Rutte reaffirmed that NATO’s commitment remains essential for stability and security in the region. Hoxha also noted the importance of KFOR’s presence in Kosovo, describing it as a necessary stabilizing role.
During the meeting, Albania’s preparation for organizing the next NATO Summit in Tirana, the first Alliance summit to be held in the Western Balkans, was also discussed.
“This commitment represents a historic responsibility and confirms the strategic importance of our region,” said Hoxha.
