Zoo volunteers broke up illegal dog fights organized in Ternivka, Dnipropetrovsk Region.
During such events, animals are harassed by each other, which leads to injuries, and bets are placed on the results of cruel events, reported zoo volunteer Snizhana Bugrik.
According to her, such events are motivated by “testing the breed”, but the activist emphasizes that cruel treatment of animals is against the law.
“The video clearly shows dogs chasing each other, fights, blood, injury to animals. No one stops the abuse, on the contrary, everything continues to the cheers of those present (…)
We emphasize separately: such events are accompanied by monetary bets, participants’ contributions and rewards for the winners. In fact, it’s about an illegal bookmaker and profiting from cruelty to animals.”– said Snizhana.
According to her, thanks to the actions of volunteers and animal protectionists, another event was disrupted on April 25, and the law enforcement officers were informed about dog fights.
“We will continue to identify the locations of such fights and seek the response of state authorities”– said the woman.
The Kryvyi Rih District Police Department “UP. Life” confirmed that they had received an appeal from volunteers.
“The event has been registered. We are currently establishing the circumstances and details”– the law enforcement officers explained.
