The WAC director office announces its resignation at the next elective general assembly

In the midst of a sporting storm, the Wydad of Casablanca is preparing to turn a major page at the end of the season. Under fire from critics, the current office, led by Hicham Aït Mennaended up giving in to pressure from members and supporters, more and more of whom were demanding his departure. The announcement of this departure came on Sunday evening, in the wake of the defeat (0-1) against Zemamra during the 18th day of the Botola Pro Inwi D1. This resignation sounds like an admission of an overall failure, both technical and tactical, which ended up exhausting the patience of the supporters. The breaking point? A dark series of four games without a victory, symbol of a team incapable of meeting expectations. The elimination in the quarter-final of the CAF Cup against Olympic de Safi acted as a brutal reveal of the limits of the sporting project. Far from its standards, Wydad has had a series of poor performances, displaying a worrying feverishness and chronic instability on the bench. Under constant pressure, leaders no longer had any margin. In this explosive climate, their continuation would have accentuated the crisis. This withdrawal thus appears as a breaking decision, almost vital, to allow the club to rebuild itself. Because for the Reds, it is no longer just about changing, but about surviving.

The dates for submitting candidacies for the presidency set for the beginning of June

After having recorded the resignation of his office, the WAC initiates the next phase: that of succession. In its press release, the club first announced the opening of membership, scheduled from May 5 to June 5, in order to renew its electorate. Subsequently, the period from June 5 to 20 will be devoted to the submission of candidacies for the presidency, with a view to preparing for the ordinary and elective General Assembly, the date of which remains unknown. A clear roadmap, intended to respond to a crisis that is both sporting and emotional. By evoking a “fluid democratic transition” and the “protection of the club’s best interests”, the outgoing office is trying to keep control of the process. But beyond the organization, one question burns on everyone’s lips: who will have the shoulders strong enough to take over a Wydad in the midst of turmoil? For the Casablanca club, this transition is now a race against time. The last chance to stop a negative spiral which has already swept away its leaders.
