Through a well reactivation plan, Petroecuador managed to increase natural gas production from the Amistad Field by more than 50%, going from 17 million to 26 million cubic feet per day.
The increase is described by the company as “a new milestone in the country’s hydrocarbon management.”
Campo Amistad is located in block 6, located in the Gulf of Guayaquil. It is operated by the state oil company.
The plan executed in Amistad is part of the public company’s initiative to recover closed or non-producing wells, through techniques workover (reconditioning, in Spanish), which intervenes inside oil or gas wells.
The work allows us to recover operability, improve performance, increase production and extend its useful life.
For the Amistad Field, a jack-upwhich is a specialized marine structure for the intervention of offshore wells, Petroecuador reported in a statement on April 11.
The increase in production will contribute to generating savings estimated at $128 million, because it will reduce the import of diesel for electricity generation.
With the actions implemented in this block, production is projected to continue at an increasing rate until reaching 90 million cubic feet per day in 2027, the state company estimated.
This production volume is equivalent to the energy consumption of around one and a half million Ecuadorian homes.
The exact production of Amistad, as of April 11, was 25,816 million cubic feet per day, according to a report from Petroecuador.
All the gas extracted from the field is distributed to the industrial sector and electricity generation, especially from the Termogás Machala power plant.
Petroecuador highlighted that in the Amistad 6 well, production was able to increase by 6 million cubic feet per day.
Furthermore, during the intervention in the field, a new deposit called Progreso was discovered, which is integrated into the active operation for the first time.
The discovery opens the possibility of increasing the current certified reserves of 146 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. (YO)
