The ports discuss with the regional delegation unification of customs procedures

The Border Ports Authority and the region agreed to proceed with unifying customs procedures at border ports, with the aim of enhancing economic integration and organizing customs work throughout the country. A statement received by Al-Zaman yesterday said: “The authority hosted an expanded meeting chaired by Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, to discuss organizing customs work at all border crossings, with the participation of representatives of the federal departments and the Kurdistan Regional Government.” He added, “The meeting focused on unifying customs tariffs and implementing the electronic ASYCUDA system in all ports without exception, ensuring fair procedures and facilitating the movement of goods.” Pointing out that (the meeting discussed the files of customs exemptions, prohibition and restriction lists, standardization and quality control, radiological examination, adherence to the agricultural calendar, treatment of unofficial ports, and unification of tax procedures). Al-Waeli stressed (the necessity of adopting a spirit of positive cooperation and making citizens’ requirements and facilitating trade a top priority). Pointing out that (these steps will reduce the burden on drivers and merchants and reflect positively on economic stability). He continued, “Exceptional circumstances require overcoming differences and unifying efforts among all parties.” He pointed out that (the Ports Authority will remain a point of meeting and understanding with the region, based on the principle that Iraq is one with its region and governorates).
