National Council holds lecture on crime, security threats, and impact of drugs and migration on society

Shaheed El-Hafed, June 14, 2026 (SPS) – As part of the program of activities for the National Council’s Spring Session 2026, the legislative institution hosted a lecture entitled “Crime and Security Threats: Risks and Challenges Associated with Drugs, Weapons, Foreign Nationals, and Irregular Migration.” The lecture was delivered by Professor Ahmed Ali Salem from the National Directorate of Security, Documentation, and Institutional Protection.

The lecture, held under the theme “Fifty Years of Resilience in the Face of Extermination,” formed part of a series of intellectual and awareness-raising activities accompanying the session’s proceedings. It addressed a number of issues related to current security challenges, particularly the spread of drugs and psychotropic substances, the circulation of weapons, and the phenomenon of irregular migration, as well as their repercussions on security, stability, and social cohesion.

The speaker reviewed the various risks that these phenomena may generate, emphasizing the importance of strengthening public awareness, promoting a culture of prevention and vigilance, and highlighting the role of institutions and society in confronting all forms of threats targeting the safety and well-being of the community.

For his part, National Secretariat member, President of the National Council, Bachir Mustapha Sayed, stressed that the Moroccan occupation continues to target the Sahrawi people through various methods, including psychological warfare, propaganda, and attempts to cast doubt on national achievements. He also pointed to efforts aimed at sowing discord and division, exploiting different means to influence young people and draw them into activities that serve organized crime and networks involved in drug trafficking and distribution.

The President of the National Council underscored that strengthening awareness, national unity, and adherence to political organization constitute the first line of defense against various challenges. He called for greater mobilization and vigilance to preserve national gains and defend the aspirations and objectives of the Sahrawi people.

This lecture comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to promote discussion on issues affecting community security and to raise awareness of the dangers posed by criminal activities and their impact on the future of coming generations.
