Today, Thursday, the Austrian Embassy in Algeria published a funny video clip regarding the confrontation that will bring together the two teams, at dawn this Sunday, in the third round of the tenth group competitions in the 2026 World Cup.

The video shows a cat “predicting” the outcome of the match, as he went to a plate of food carrying the Austrian flag, ignoring the other plate bearing the Algerian flag, in a funny reference to the likelihood of the European team winning. The embassy attached the video with the phrase: “Predictions of our very special agent, Sami, for the next match.”
The idea of using animals to predict the results of matches goes back to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when the German octopus “Paul” gained wide international fame after successfully predicting the results of several matches, from his tank in the city of Oberhausen.
Since then, this phenomenon has been repeated in various major tournaments, as media channels and websites rely on animals choosing between flags, balls, or food containers representing the teams, with the aim of providing entertaining and attractive content to the audience.
On the sporting level, the national team enters this decisive confrontation equal in number of points with the Austrian team (3 points each), behind the defending champion, Argentina (6 points), which secured qualification and first place, while the Jordanian team left the competition after two successive defeats.
The Austrian team is ahead on goal difference, which gives it second place currently, and a draw in this round will be enough for the two teams to guarantee qualification to the next round, given the points tally held by the third-placed team in the rest of the groups so far.
