Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 23, 2026
— A Tabernacle resident has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a robbery charge arising from an incident that occurred more than three years ago.
According to a press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Keshaun Akers received the sentence on June 22, 2026, during proceedings before His Lordship Justice Patrick Thompson Jr. in the High Court.
Court records indicate that the case stemmed from an incident on March 29, 2023. Following investigations by law enforcement officers, Akers was arrested and formally charged with Robbery and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
When arraigned before the High Court on February 13, 2026, Akers entered a guilty plea to the robbery charge. The accompanying charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm remains on file.
In handing down the sentence, Justice Thompson ordered that Akers serve six years at His Majesty’s Prison, with credit given for the two years he has already spent on remand.
Beyond the custodial sentence, the Court also incorporated a rehabilitative component, directing Akers to enroll in and pursue CXC Mathematics and English studies in preparation for the May/June 2027 examination period.
The Court further ruled that non-compliance with the educational requirement will attract an additional six months’ imprisonment, which would run concurrently with the existing six-year sentence.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force said it remains steadfast in its commitment to investigating and prosecuting violent offences. The organization also reaffirmed its ongoing collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the judiciary to ensure that offenders are brought before the courts and held accountable for their actions.
