More than 100 employees of the Committee for Emergency Situations of Tajikistan are participating in the search for the chairman of GBAO Alisher Mirzonabot and four other people who were with him in a car that fell into the Pyanj River.
The head of the press center of the CoES of Tajikistan, Orif Nozimiyon, told Asia-Plus about this from the scene of the incident.
“The water level in the river remains high, the current is very strong, which significantly complicates the operation. But, despite all the difficulties, search work continues. Representatives of all relevant government agencies are at the scene of the incident. Search activities are carried out from early morning until late evening,” Nozimiyon said.

According to him, an operational headquarters has been created at the scene of the incident. Searches are carried out daily using all necessary forces and means.
Rescuers are examining the river both from the surface and underwater – in the area of the incident and in areas downstream.

CoES units from GBAO, the Kulyab region, as well as specialized rescue groups are participating in the work.
Let us remind you that on the morning of June 17, on the Dushanbe-Khorog highway in the Darvaz region, a car in which Alisher Mirzonabot, his wife, daughter, assistant and driver were, fell into the Pyanj River. Their search has been going on for seven days.

Previously, the duties of the chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region were entrusted to First Deputy Head of the region Sharifkhon Safarzoda.
As reported in the executive body of state power of GBAO, Safarzoda will lead the region until the appointment of a new chairman.
Sharifkhon Safarzoda has held the position of first deputy chairman of GBAO since 2023. Before that, he headed the Varzob district.
