The press service of NC KazAvtoZhol reported that the situation with the bridge over the Chagan River in the West Kazakhstan region is under control, Kazinform agency reports.
On April 30, 2026, during a scheduled patrol at the 247th kilometer of the republican highway Aktobe – Uralsk – Russian border, damage was detected to the pedestrian part of the bridge over the Chagan River.
According to preliminary data, there are no casualties. The main roadway of the bridge and supporting structures are not damaged, traffic flows as normal. Experts suggest that the cause of the damage could be corrosive wear of individual metal elements in the pedestrian part of the bridge.
— The exact conclusions will be known based on the results of additional technical testing. At the scene of the incident, prompt measures were taken to ensure road safety, temporary fences and the necessary technical equipment were installed, the message says.
The bridge was put into operation in 1962.
