The coach Carlo Ancelotti must have to deal with another loss in the group of the Brazilian team that will compete in the World cupbetween June 11th and July 19th.
Defender Éder Militão, from Real Madridwho suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh last Tuesday (21), will need to undergo a surgical procedure and will not be able to play in the World Cup, according to information from Spanish radio Cope.
The Brazilian team debuts in the tournament in North America on June 13, against Morocco.
The merengue club has not yet officially commented on any updates on its athlete’s health status.
On Thursday (21), when confirming the physical problem, Real simply said that it was a “muscle injury to the biceps femoris”.
The association did not inform the estimated time of absence, limiting itself to stating that the athlete’s recovery “will be monitored” by the medical team.
This is the Brazilian defender’s third muscle injury of the season. The first occurred in November, when he missed two games.
The second occurred in December, when he also suffered a rupture of the biceps femoris in his left leg, which affected a tendon. The Brazilian was sidelined for almost four months.
According to information from Cope, new tests carried out by the club showed that a scar left by this second intervention ended up reopening, forcing new surgery on the athlete. The estimated recovery time is again around four months.
“The biceps femoris muscle injury is an injury to the posterior region of the thigh. It is one of the most common injuries in the soccer. What varies greatly is the severity of the injury. The muscle can present partial injuries, in which only part of the fibers are affected, to injuries in which there is complete rupture of the muscle fibers at a certain point”, said Adriano Marques de Almeida, president of SBRATE (Brazilian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology.
Muscle injuries are evaluated according to their extent —in relation to the length of the muscle fiber—, on a scale that starts at “grade one”, of lesser severity, with only muscle stretching, going through “grade two”, when there is rupture of 50% of the fibers, and “grade three”, with 50% to almost 100% rupture. In “degree four”, there is total rupture of the muscle fiber. Real did not say the extent of Militão’s injury.
Last Wednesday (22), the specialized website The Athletic published that striker Estêvão, from Chelsea, suffered a grade four muscle injury during a clash with Manchester United, with his participation in the World Cup practically ruled out.
“After this Militão injury, appropriate treatment is necessary to allow the muscle to heal, avoiding the formation of fibrosis, allowing the recovery of bone mobility and muscle strength, without pain or any symptoms”, noted Almeida.
Striker Rodrygo, also from Real Madrid, It’s already a real embezzlement of the Brazilian team in the World Cup, after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, in early March. The estimated time for recovery is at least eight months.
Vitor Roque will be out for up to four months after another ankle injury
Striker Vitor Roque, from Palmeiras, who was called up by Ancelotti for friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia, he will also have to undergo surgery after suffering a new injury to his left ankle, during a duel on Thursday against Jacuipense, for the Copa do Brasil.
The player had been gradually returning to the team after being sidelined in recent weeks due to a problem in the same region.
“We wish our Tigrinho a lot of strength and a full recovery. We are with you”, wrote Palmeiras in a post on social media.
Orthopedist and sports doctor at Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz, João Polydoro explained that “the syndesmosis injury”, detected in the case of Vitor Roque, is characterized by the sprain of the ankle, with impact on the ligaments that connect the tibia to the fibula.
“These ligaments are essential for maintaining the stability of the joint, especially during rotation or load movements. Therefore, it is a more complex injury than a common sprain,” said Polydoro.
The orthopedist estimates the average recovery time of around four months, in surgical cases, with the attacker’s return, therefore, only after the World Cup.
“In post-surgical rehabilitation, the first step is to control edema, pain, and weight restriction. Then, with the inflammatory process decreasing, rehabilitation is carried out with the aim of gaining mobility. In the third phase, strengthening the ankle muscles. Then, balance training and, finally, sport-specific movements”, added Ricardo Soares, orthopedic doctor at the AACD Orthopedic Hospital.
