King Milan Obrenović could soon get a monument in Leskovac, in the central city park, since the City Administration has announced a tender for its conceptual design, construction and installation. The estimated value of the purchase is around 40 million dinars, i.e. more than 340,000 euros, and the unveiling of the monument is already scheduled for December 24 this year, they write. Southern news.
The plan is for the sculpture to be a maximum of eight meters high, 2.2 x 4 meters wide and for King Milan to be on horseback. First, they are looking for a conceptual solution, and later the deadline for carrying out works on the monument according to that conceptual solution will be 180 working days.
The figure must be made according to all standards for this type of work and the contractor is fully responsible for compliance with the regulations and fulfillment of the technical requirements of the figure and the overall monument together with the pedestal, as well as for quality. This, first of all, implies a high overall artistic impression of the finished bronze sculpture, the use of the highest quality materials in a modern process and precise work on the creation of the entire form and surface of the bronze sculpture – it is stated in the tender documentation.
The City Administration points out that the monument must not endanger the view due to the proximity of buildings and trees, and they point out that it is especially important not to obscure the existing monuments, as well as to keep the existing paths.
There will be a plateau around the monument, the fountain is not planned for now, but according to urban plans, the idea remains to install it later.
To arrange the plateau around the monument on the ground level, in the place of the planned fountain and the current greenery, a green area with planted conifers that would symbolize the procession is desirable. Adequately illuminate the monument with ambient light, i.e. decorative lighting – it says in the documentation.
The exact location and dimensions of the plateau will be determined by the conceptual solution, which must be approved by JP Urbanism and Construction. The City Administration says that the conceptual solution should have a high artistic value.
The aspiration is to create an ambient space as a place of gathering, interaction and remembrance of the event that is commemorated by the monument – it is stated in the tender documentation.
The author of the monument and the contractors should be known after May 22, when public procurement is open.
