While state celebrations of the Constitution of May 3 are underway in Warsaw, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has traveled to Armenia. The head of government writes about the significance of the “Sunday summit” in Yerevan, even though its opening ceremony is not scheduled until tomorrow. What activity prompted Tusk to depart on the eve of the summit?
“Today’s summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan should send a clear signal that transatlantic ties and European-American friendship are our shared responsibility and that there is no alternative to them. We need each other more than ever. Our allies can always count on Poland,” Donald Tusk wrote on Sunday on the X platform.
The prime minister skipped the Constitution of May 3 celebrations in favor of a ceremonial dinner. It will be hosted this evening by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan.
Only on Monday will the prime minister take part, among other events, in the opening ceremony of the European Political Community summit and the plenary session, as well as in a coordination meeting on Ukraine and a working group dedicated to supporting reforms and security in Armenia.
The opposition is criticizing the prime minister for his absence from the state celebrations of the national holiday. The summit will be held under the motto “Building the future: unity and stability in Europe.” A total of 48 heads of state and government have been invited, including representatives from the European Union, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the Balkan countries, and the South Caucasus. For the first time, a non-European country – Canada – will take part in the EPC forum. The main topics will include Europe’s security, also in the context of the economy and energy, as well as strengthening democratic resilience.
