The president of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Ivica Dacic, said that the SPS is a stable and politically indispensable party, without which a serious political structure in the country cannot be built.
In a statement that can be considered a kind of message to the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) due to Aleksandar Vučić’s claims about the decreasing importance of the Socialist Party of Serbia, he said that the SPS will continue to lead a policy that protects state and national interests “and that it will always be a factor without which no serious political structure can be built in the country.”
He pointed out that the SPS “is not a party that appears and disappears depending on the political winds” but “today is stable, organized and politically indispensable”.
The day before, speaking about the SPS, Vučić stated that under Slobodan Milošević, that party had 40 percent of the vote, while under Ivic Dacić it never exceeded 15 percent.
“I took them to the Government three times, although I never needed them for the majority,” said Vučić.
“When Ivica Dacic leaves, five percent will not even be able to dream. The question is whether they will be able to pass this threshold of three percent… Remember my words,” said Vucic.
In his statement for today’s Kurir, however, Dacic conciliatoryly added that he is convinced that the SPS, together with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and President Aleksandar Vucic, will win the elections, and that the date of their holding depends on the overall situation, domestic and international.
“SPS, as before, will be ready for elections at any moment. Our cooperation with Aleksandar Vučić and SNS proved to be a guarantor of political stability and security,” said Dacić, adding that he is convinced that the citizens will recognize this in the elections.
