Asalt Weapon takes Spec Class in Regatta #3 for overall lead

WAsalt Weapon re­mained ahead of the pack af­ter three re­gat­tas of the T&T Power­boat As­so­ci­a­tion, which took place over the week­end.

The Spec Class cam­paign­er raced to a to­tal of 595 points af­ter a spate of suc­cess­ful re­sults on Sun­day. Af­ter en­ter­ing the day’s events with an over­all to­tal of 1510 points from the pre­vi­ous two re­gat­tas for the year, the crew of throt­tle­man An­tho­ny Scott and dri­ver Daniel Marc War­ren steered the boat to vic­to­ry, ahead of Bal­lis­tic and, third, S-Ka­pade, the same two com­peti­tors from the last event.

Three weeks ago, Asalt Weapon clinched the wins in the two sprint races con­test­ed, as it held off Bal­lis­tic, which claimed the run­ner-up po­si­tions in the sprints, and S-Ka­pade. Bal­lis­tic re­ceived 495 points for its per­for­mance, with S-Ka­pade re­ceiv­ing 320 points.

Like Asalt Weapon, Krak­en con­trols the top po­si­tion in the 60-mph class. It raced to the third-high­est amount of points for the event at 480 points, as the crew got the bet­ter of Time­less and, third, Je­sus Is Com­ing. Last year, Krak­en was crowned the over­all na­tion­al cham­pi­on boat, for which they were pre­sent­ed with two tro­phies and a ham­per, while 80mph cam­paign­er Pan­dem­ic/Out­law got the Lennox Tang Yuk Cham­pi­onships ti­tle of two tro­phies and a cash prize.

The 60-mph class, con­sid­ered the largest cat­e­go­ry with the most boats, saw the top three boats be­ing fol­lowed by fourth-place Hooli­gan, with ‘Knot in Slow Mo­tion’ se­cur­ing the fifth-place fin­ish. An­oth­er cam­paign­er, Kism, failed to take the start­ing points for the two cir­cuit races and a sprint event and re­ceived a to­tal of 45 points.

Mean­while, Track Heat­wave sealed the win in the 80mph class. Weeks af­ter the boat dom­i­nat­ed their class with vic­to­ries in three out of four events, the Heat­wave team of Mor­gan Han­nock (throt­tle­man) and John Michael Sab­ga (dri­ver) got the bet­ter of Shell Oyt­law.

Heat­wave has been rid­ing a wave of their his­to­ry-mak­ing In­ter­na­tion­al Great Race of 2025, in which the crew pro­duced a record of one hour, 15 min­utes and 38 sec­onds in mak­ing the trek from Trinidad to the sis­ter isle of To­ba­go.
