High-level officials and international partners have gathered this week for a critical monitoring and promotion meeting focused on the Rural Resilience and Poverty Reduction Project.
The sessions, running from 4–8 May 2026, aim to evaluate progress and refine the implementation of this large-scale welfare initiative.
The meeting is being co-chaired by Mr Kikeo Singnavong, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Environment, and Mr Amer Gari, Country Operations Head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Laos Resident Mission.
The event has brought together department heads from multiple ministries, ADB technical teams, and project coordinators to ensure the programme meets its ambitious 2030 targets.
Operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s Department of Rural Development and Poverty Reduction, the meeting focuses on optimising the project’s internal mechanics.
Launched in 2025, the project is a centrepiece of the government’s strategy to alleviate poverty. Spanning four target provinces, the initiative reaches 16 districts and 920 villages.
A primary objective of the project is to improve health and nutrition outcomes for the most vulnerable. By providing financial support during these critical first 1,000 days of life, the project ensures that families can afford essential healthcare and nutritious food.
This strategic focus is designed to combat stunting and malnutrition, providing a foundation for long-term economic stability and breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty in rural Laos.
