It is important to continue with concrete steps that will contribute to the permanent preservation of the memory of the innocent victims of the martyrdom of Piva, through adequate placement of this topic in educational programs, the development of memorial content and the commemoration of the day of remembrance, announced today the Vice President of the Government of Montenegro for Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica.
“On June 7, we honor the innocent victims who died in Piva with deep respect. Their suffering remains forever in the collective memory and is an indelible part of the historical memory of Montenegro. By preserving the memory of the innocent victims of the crucified Piva, we confirm our commitment to the values of peace, anti-fascism, human dignity and mutual respect,” said Koprivica in a statement.
He added that by adopting the Resolution on the genocide in Piva and Velica, the Parliament of Montenegro “made an important civilizational step forward in nurturing the culture of remembrance, honoring the innocent victims and affirming the universal values of human dignity and justice”.
“This sent a clear message that the suffering of the innocent must be part of the culture of remembrance, for the sake of truth and responsibility towards future generations. It is important to continue with concrete steps that will contribute to the permanent preservation of the memory of the innocent victims of the martyrdom of Piva, through an adequate place for this topic in educational programs, the development of memorial content and the commemoration of the day of remembrance. We are also bound by what is defined by the Resolution, but above all, the debt to the innocent victims and future generations,” said Koprivica.
