The elected representatives in Qeqqata Commune meets today. On the day of the meeting itself, something unusual happened this morning. The ski club SSP Alpin Sisimiut demonstrated before the meeting.
The background to the protest is that Karl Lyberth from Naleraq has proposed that the 19.9 million kroner, which has already been allocated to a ski center in Sisimiut, should instead be moved to housing purposes.
The proposal must be considered today, and alpine skiers and some citizens are therefore against it:
– We had to set a limit because the hope for a better life and the hope for the children must be preserved and protected, says Ulloriaq Kreutzmann to Sermitsiaq. He is chairman of the association.
Chairman: Now everyone wants a ski centre
According to the chairman, around 70-80 people participated, from children to the elderly, including people who do not ski alpine themselves. The elected officials in Sisimiut spoke to the protesters. And their words were well received.
– Their answers were really good. This is because it now seems as if they all want a ski centre, says Ulloriaq Kreutzmann.
The chairman of the association has noticed that Karl Lyberth’s proposal is not supported by the party colleague in Sisimiut. Karl Lyberth is from Maniitsoq. Therefore, he very much hopes that the proposal will not be approved today.
– I clearly hope and expect that the attitude of the elected representatives has changed. Just when we showed our protest, there was no opposition anymore. The Naleraq member from Sisimiut even blamed his party colleagues in Maniitsoq for the proposal, says Ulloriaq Kreutzmann.
He wants respect from elected officials
It can be read in the municipal board’s agenda that Karl Lyberth has made the proposal because he wants the grant for the ski center to be used instead to improve the housing situation in the municipality. But the chairman of the skiers believes that the money he wants to use for another purpose will not go very far.
– How much housing construction do you get for DKK 19.9 million? Maybe houses for three or four families, says Ulloriaq Kreutzmann.
Therefore, he wants the grant, which has been approved by the majority, to be respected by the elected representatives.
– They are already concluded agreements that are being tried to be changed along the way, and that is not fair either. The grants must be respected, says Ulloriaq Kreutzmann.
