The president of the entity Republika Srpska Siniša Karan said that burning the flag with “war cries” is uncivilized and vandalism. He assessed that, in addition to being contrary to all principles of coexistence, it is also a serious violation of relations between the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said that this act has several criminal acts prescribed by the Criminal Code of the RS.
– I am hereby submitting a criminal complaint to the competent prosecutor’s office and the police and demand that all the perpetrators be identified and their responsibility determined, Karan told Srna. He assessed that the obvious ferocity of the perpetrators of this vandalism is a clear message to all Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– By desecrating the flag of Republika Srpska, taking it down and burning it with shouts that give this heinous act an additional, disturbing dimension, it represents an unacceptable action against one of the most important symbols of Republika Srpska, said Karan, and added:
– Even after thirty years, they are not bothered by the war flag under which they killed and committed the most terrible crimes against the Serbian population, but they are offended and bothered by the constitutional flag of the Republika Srpska.
Karan said that everything that is happening today is the product of actions against Republika Srpska for the last 30 years.
– That is why I fully support the initiative to permanently ban the flag with lilies on the territory of Republika Srpska, said Karan.
He said that the only correct solution is to strengthen the constitutional position of the Republika Srpska in a state union in which everyone has their own territory, their own state power and their own population, “as Annex IV of the Dayton Agreement also predicted.”
As a reminder, a video appeared on social networks showing a group of men lighting the flag after removing the Republika Srpska flag from the mast, shouting “Takbir, Allahu-akbar”.
