Spencer Jones hit his first home run at Yankee Stadium in the second inning, Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt each added a two-run homer in the fourth, and the New York Yankees routed Davis Martin in a 12-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
Gerrit Cole (2-1) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, while the Yankees improved to 8-4 since losing slugger Aaron Judge indefinitely to a stress fracture in his right rib.
Jones reached the second deck in right field for a game-tying home run off Martin (9-3), the second of his career. The rookie also walked with the bases loaded during a four-run third inning after Martin missed an ABS review.
Rice hit his 20th home run to give the Yankees a 7-1 lead by sending Martin’s curveball (2-1) into the right field stands. Goldschmidt knocked Martin out of the game with his 10th home run of the year, a drive to left field off a fast pitch (1-2).
Rice reached 20 home runs for the second straight season, having hit 26 in 2025. The first baseman joined Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, Minnesota’s Byron Buxton and injured White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami among American League players with 20 home runs.
Goldschmidt hit his second home run in three games and tied his total from last season, when he appeared in 146 games with the Yankees.
José Caballero homered off a 41 mph curveball from infielder Luisangel Acuña in the ninth inning.
Cody Bellinger had three hits, including a two-run single that put his team ahead with the bases loaded in the third inning. Ryan McMahon drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning, which scored six runs. JC Escarra started the third inning with a double and reached base three times, including once on a throwing error by reliever Chris Murphy that gave the Yankees an 11-1 lead.
New York finished with 16 hits and scored more than ten runs for the eighth time.
Andrew Benintendi homered after three batters, but the White Sox fell to a 5-4 record in a streak of 11 consecutive games against the Phillies, Braves, Dodgers and Yankees.
Martin tied his personal best by allowing nine runs. He also gave up eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. The right-hander allowed three home runs, after allowing just three in his first 13 starts.
