The Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan is developing a curriculum “Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence” for students in grades 5–11. This the issue was discussed On June 18, at a meeting of the working group on digitalization of education at the Republican Center for Analysis, Information and Digital Technologies of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Representatives of the ministry, UNICEF, Global Partnership for Education, EdTech Hub and experts in the field of digital technologies took part in the discussion.
Participants were presented with the results of a study as part of the Tech4Ed initiative dedicated to the development of a school AI curriculum. International experience in teaching artificial intelligence, the state of digital education in the country, and possible mechanisms for introducing a new course into schools were also discussed.
First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Khomid Khoshimzoda noted the importance of digital skills and preparing schoolchildren for the requirements of the modern technological world.
As previously reported by the AI Council under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, in the new 2025–2026 academic year, classes will be held in the subject “Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence” should have been selectively held in 100 schools across the country — in 60 schools in Dushanbe and 40 schools in other regions.
The goal of the project was to create a basis for the subsequent introduction of a new subject into the school curriculum.
At the first, experimental stage, schools with the most suitable conditions were selected: high-speed Internet, electronic boards and the necessary material and technical equipment. The level of students’ preparation was also taken into account, especially in mathematics.
The AI Council noted that last year the pilot stage of the project was implemented in 25 schools in the country, including 18 schools in Dushanbe and 7 schools in Khujand and Kanibadam, where good results were achieved.
According to the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Tajikistan until 2040, by 2028, AI training was planned to be introduced as a separate subject in all schools of the republic.
