The Canadian Trade Office in Taipei is to hold a Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) event in Taipei at the end of this month to raise awareness about foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
The event, titled “Building Cyber Resilience: Policy, Business, Innovation,” is to be held in collaboration with the foreign ministry and the Ministry of Justice, Department of North American Affairs Deputy Director-General Chiao Kuo-you (焦國祐) said.
The GCTF hopes to attract participants from 20 member countries, including Japan, Australia, the UK and the US, to this year’s event, he said.

Participants are to examine the threats posed by FIMI to the democratic system, how to hold offenders accountable under the law and information-sharing systems between countries, Chiao said.
The workshop hopes to raise awareness in other countries about transnational repression, Chiao said, adding that many countries are unaware that actions by certain countries within the host nation’s borders constitute transnational repression.
The workshop would cover static events, and the foreign ministry would also arrange simulated events and actual visits to the foreign ministry to better establish transnational and cross-departmental support networks, Chiao said.
Taiwan aims to show that it is a force for good in the international community by working with other countries through the GCTF platform, Chiao said.
