Archbishop Gabriele Caccia arrived in Washington on May 6, welcomed at the airport by Mrs. Nan Kennelly, vice-chief of Protocol, by Mrs. Noelia Sales, his assistant, and by the reverend Monsignors Većeslav Tumir and Jacek Paweł Pinocy, permanent collaborators of the Apostolic Nunciature.
The following day, the pontifical representative was accompanied by Monsignor Tumir to the State Department, for the presentation of copies of the Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Mrs. Monica Crowley, Chief of Protocol. During the cordial conversation, Archbishop Caccia expressed gratitude and appreciation for the rapid organization of preparations in view of the start of his Mission in the country, a sign of courteous attention towards the Holy See.
The presentation ceremony of the Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mr. Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, took place on May 21 in the Oval Office of the White House. The nuncio took the opportunity to extend the Holy Father’s respectful greetings to the president. For his part, the president hoped for the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Holy See, praising its work in the country.
Subsequently, from 10 to 12 June, Archbishop Gabriele Caccia took part in the Spring Plenary Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of the United States of America, which took place in Orlando (Florida). The introductory session of the Plenary was the opportunity to deliver the Letter of Commendation to Monsignor Paul S. Coakley, archbishop of Oklahoma City and president of the Episcopal Conference.
