Today, the farmers of the Hizam family, isolated in the quarter of Hadd in Jabal al-Sharq District in Dhamar Governorate, launched an initiative to uproot the Qat tree from their farms and replace it with coffee seedlings, under the slogan “No to Qat Cultivation.”
Al-Hizam farmers explained that the initiative aims to restore the historical status of the region famous for its coffee cultivation since ancient times. They hope that their approach to replacing the Qat tree with coffee seedlings will be supported by the Agriculture Branch and the Agricultural Cooperative Society in the district by providing more seedlings to keep pace with the expansion of coffee cultivation.
The local authority of the directorate, the agriculture branch, and the Jabal al-Sharq Agricultural Cooperative Society praised this initiative as an important step towards expanding coffee cultivation.
They called on all farmers to follow the example of this development initiative that benefits farmers and society, and adds to the achievements of the Agricultural Front, stressing their readiness to provide agricultural inputs and high-quality seedlings, as well as providing sorting, filtering, screening, packaging, and marketing services for the crop through the Coffee Development and Marketing Center.
