A good herb, walnut, sour cherry, and even plum are somewhat standard, and then you are sure that you have covered everyone’s taste. But when it comes to the palate, there is a special taste in unexpected flavors and foods. That is why we are convinced that hardly anyone will remain uninterested in this liqueur because the main raw material is surprising, namely green fig. And the only surprise is the aroma…
It’s possible that you didn’t know that an unripe, green, fig fruit was edible, and you probably thought it was poisonous. But that is not true. Neither the fruit nor the leaf are poisonous, although they are not completely harmless because they can cause skin irritation, especially in the sun. When you keep that in mind and act accordingly, there should be no consequences. Add to that the consumption of small amounts of fruit and leaves that are previously processed, and these are completely safe foods.
Let’s get back to the flavors, because that’s exactly why the green fig fruit is an interesting raw material. If you follow gastronomic trends, you must have come across fig leaf syrup in recent years, which has become a hit among spiza lovers. We also wrote about him hereand also tea which you will not come across so easily. Namely, the leaves have a fresh, green aroma, with slightly tropical notes and a discreet sweetness. If you are a fan of perfumes, then you haven’t missed that the favorite aroma is fig, especially among them niche perfumeries, and the uninitiated might be surprised that it is not the ripe fruit that attracts perfume creators and lovers, but the leaves and green fruit of the fig tree.
This liqueur also retains that specific fresh aroma, which is somewhat reminiscent of coconut, something sweet and juicy. And this is nothing new, because this liqueur was prepared generations ago here, but also in Italy, Greece… There are variations in the amount of figs and sugar, but the basis is the same.
If you want, you can also add a leaf or two figs for a more pronounced aroma. And a small note at the end, we have already said that picking figs can cause irritation on the skin, so be sure to wear gloves!
