It’s the sixth month, the season is heating up, and the streets of Split are once again full of tourists from all over the world. Most of them are young people, a large percentage of whom are still in the education system.
While they were enjoying the sun, the sea and the atmosphere of the town under Marjan, we decided to check how much they actually know about the country where they are spending their vacation. Seemingly simple questions about Croatia showed a lot. We asked them what is the capital of Croatia? And while some answered without a problem that it was Zagreb, Dubrovnik and even Trogir were among the answers, while some admitted that they simply did not know.
The population estimate did not fare much better either. While Croatia has a little less than four million inhabitants, tourists have speculated that there are ten, thirty or even more millions.
Particularly interesting were the answers to the question to which countries did Croatia belong throughout history? In addition to correct or partially correct answers, those who connected Croatia with the Soviet Union, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Serbia could also be heard…
The question about the average Croatian salary was not without surprises either. While part of the respondents believed that the average citizen of Croatia earns around 600 euros per month, others were convinced that the average income ranges between 2,500 and 4,000 euros.
How they coped with our questions and which answers made us laugh the most, see in the attached video.
