What did the monks understand about the friendship of plants in the Middle Ages, what plants reflect the character of Žemaitė, what do the skyscrapers of the city have in common with the willow near Neris, where the name rose dedicated to the writer Roalds Dahl, the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and other curiosities about flower therapy that stops the moment – in the new route of “Neakivadinis Vilnius” “How to bloom in Vilnius. City flowers”.

“Watching how actively Vilnius residents and guests of the city celebrate the blossoming of cherry blossoms and lilacs, how they enjoy the daisies on the banks of the Neris River or phloxes in the Japanese garden, and finally how wonderfully the Vilnius flower gardens are decorated every year, we couldn’t help but invite you to take a walk around the blooming city with a special thematic route.

We created this route in cooperation with Vaiva Marozien, landscape architect-ecologist of “Vilnius City Parks”, so it will appeal to both those who do not distinguish between plants and those interested in greenery”, – Kristina Mackevičienė, the chief specialist of the Department of Foreign Relations and Tourism of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration, presents the most fragrant and colorful route of “Invisible Vilnius” created so far.

The 20 blooming stops on the route (Kristalos złolyna, Rapolo Passage, Rose Garden of the Opera and Ballet Theater, Sofijas Kymantaitė-Čiurlionienė Square flower garden, etc.) can be covered in 4 hours – the distance is about 14 km.

According to V. Marozienė, flower gardens in Vilnius currently make up about 3 ha – an area the size of four football fields. The most beautiful, of course, is the Old Town, but more and more blooming oases are appearing in other districts of the city as public spaces are being remodeled and renovated.

“Modern, contemporary and abundant in bloom – these are the most special flower gardens in Vilnius. To admire them, it is important to capture the moment, after all, the natural pictures in the flower gardens change every season. This route is not only intended to be admired, but also to stop, rest, inspire, spend time with yourself or your loved ones, and get to know Vilnius differently. Every time you can discover something new in the flower gardens”, he invites you to immerse yourself in flower therapy in the city route planner V. Marozienė.

She reveals that the flower gardens are not created anew every year, but are professionally maintained so that they multiply in a purposeful way. However, there are places in Vilnius where new flower gardens are created every year.

The route “How to bloom in Vilnius. City flowers” can be found here.
