According to the non-binding memorandum of understanding, the company “will aim to start production of Chery International UK passenger cars at the plant, the first production line, in the 2027 financial year”, Nissan said in a statement.
The Sunderland plant will continue to be wholly owned by Nissan, with factory workers employed by the Japanese company, according to the statement.
