Excavator manager Emin Kuru said the intensity of the snow he encountered this year was the most challenging winter he had seen in 15 years.
Kuru stated that they have been working on the plateau roads for approximately 20 days, saying:
– We managed to open roads only on half of our 20 plateaus in mountainous regions. Snow removal is very difficult. In some places, the snow depth is very high. We have difficulty moving forward with heavy machinery on climbs.
He stated that he had not encountered a similar situation in previous years.
– In previous years, we were able to open roads to all 20 plateaus in six or seven days. This year, despite working for nearly 20 days, we managed to open roads only on ten plateaus. We need at least another ten to 12 days to complete the work.
Heavy machinery operator Yakup Guney also stressed that they work around the clock and that the opening of the roads on the plateau is important for those involved in livestock farming.
Guney stated that they are working on the Agara Plateau road and are 23 kilometers away from the nearest settlement.
He said that after the Agara plateau, he will continue work on opening roads for traffic towards the Gole, Noadit, Sirte and Orta plateaus.
