Vorcaro believes he did not commit crimes, say allies – 06/10/2026 – Mônica Bergamo

One of the main barriers for the proposed plea bargain of Daniel Vorcaro The breakthrough is the difficulty for him to admit, even to his friends, advisors and lawyers, that he committed crimes or unethical acts and must, therefore, confess that he corrupted political agents so that they benefited him.

The opinion is from five direct interlocutors of the owner of the Master Bank heard by the column, from the legal area and the business area.

In the unanimous assessment of all of them, who lived with Vorcaro at different times, before and after of his second arrestthe former banker firmly believes that he played within the rules of the game in the political and business world by approaching authorities and having financial involvement with them.

He credits his misfortune not to the acts he committed, according to one of the assistants, but to the power of adversaries in the business world who “worked for his misfortune.” Even maneuvers in financial operations would have followed the loopholes allowed by law.

“His record is falling very slowly”, says one of the professionals, justifying the quality of the information provided so far by Vorcaro to the PF (Federal Police) and the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) in its second attempt to close a plea bargain.

The two bodies consider them to be precariousselective and insufficient to close a collaboration agreement.

In Vorcaro’s assessment of his interlocutors, for example, hiring the law firm of Viviane de Moraes, wife of the minister of STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraesfor R$ 129 million, would not even be questionable from an ethical point of view as it in no way differentiates it from other companies that hire law firms in which family members of magistrates from regional courts, from STJ (Superior Court of Justice) and the STF itself act.

“He believed that Alexandre de Moraes was the most powerful person in the country and that it was good to have him around. Mere proximity would frighten and neutralize his adversaries in the financial world, without the minister needing to do anything concrete in his favor”, says one of Vorcaro’s interlocutors.

Pay travel and other expenses of an influential senator like Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), of those who considered themselves friends, it would be nothing more than acting like hundreds of businesspeople act in the country when approaching powerful politicians, doing them some favors just to have them close by.

Financing the film about the life of Jair Bolsonaro at the request of Flávio Bolsonaro it would also be a legitimate relationship, which is in no way different from other contributions from businesspeople to powerful political families.

Another lawyer states that proximity to magistrates and politicians from all parties would, in the Master’s owner’s opinion, have the effect of deterring opponents.

“He really doesn’t think his financial contributions were bribes,” says one of the interlocutors.

If a judicial or political authority did him a favor, Vorcaro understood it as a reciprocal gesture of friendship, and not as corruption.

Give as an example the amendment that Ciro Nogueira made to change FGC rules (Credit Guarantee Fund), which would directly benefit the Master.

Another example would be that of the former president of BRB (Banco Regional de Brasília) Paulo Henrique Costa, arrested on suspicion that he received six properties, worth R$146 million, as bribes in exchange for authorizing the institution to buy bad portfolios from Banco Master.

According to one of the ex-banker’s interlocutors interviewed by the column, Vorcaro says he understands that, as the two financial institutions were negotiating a merger, it was only natural that he should help Costa, who would be the executive of the new business.

Under pressure from the PF, which will not accept the former banker’s proposal for collaboration under current terms, and from the PGR, which also demands new information, the owner of Master would finally be understanding that he needs to change his own understanding of the acts he committed — or at least the version he will give to the authorities about them.

According to the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo, for example, Vorcaro already changed the words used to explain the disbursement of money to Ciro Nogueira, from friendship to “bribes”.
