US President Donald Trump revealed that he informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of his strong dissatisfaction with the attack carried out by Israel in Beirut, considering that it caused confusion and delayed reaching an agreement with Iran, but he confirmed that the signing will take place in the coming hours.
Trump said in an interview with the “Axios” website that he sent a clear message to Netanyahu that he was “not satisfied at all” with the military operation in the southern suburbs, adding: “Why did Netanyahu carry out this attack? Hezbollah opened fire and hit an area in the middle of nowhere, and no one was hurt. Then he had to carry out this damned attack, and on top of that in Beirut. That made me very angry.”
The US President also criticized Netanyahu’s way of managing the crisis, saying: “Netanyahu does not have any good judgment in making the decision,” stressing that he conveyed this position directly to the Israeli Prime Minister.
Regarding the upcoming agreement with Iran, Trump expressed his belief that it is in Israel’s interest because it will prevent Tehran from possessing a nuclear weapon, and will impose strict inspection mechanisms on suspicious Iranian sites within a warning period not exceeding 24 hours, in addition to ending Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
He pointed out that the agreement was scheduled to be signed this morning, but the Israeli attack on Beirut led to a delay in the process, adding: “I believe that the signing will take place in the coming hours, but the Israeli attack shook and confused matters.”
Trump also stated in another statement to Fox News that the signing of the agreement today will be electronic and after a week in person in Europe, adding, “I will direct the lifting of the blockade as soon as the agreement with Tehran is signed.”
In the same context, an official familiar with the talks revealed to Reuters that the talks between the United States and Iran are progressing positively and at a rapid pace, indicating that the mediators are optimistic about the “near completion” of the US-Iranian agreement.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath sources also reported that a Qatari delegation is now heading to Islamabad.
The US President and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced yesterday, Saturday, that they expected to sign the agreement today. Note that Tehran did not release any official statement about the timing of the signing.
While it was reported that a Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran in the morning to put the final touches on the memorandum of understanding, according to what Reuters reported.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan played an important role in bringing the views of the two sides closer together over the past months. Qatar also entered the mediation line recently in order to reduce the gaps between the American and Iranian parties.
