At this year’s World Dog Show in Italy, a bobtail from Hungary triumphed over international competition. Traditional Hungarian breeds also shone on the global stage.
A Hungarian-owned bobtail has made history. At the prestigious World Dog Show 2026 in Bologna, it was crowned the world’s most beautiful dog. As the Hungarian Kennel Club (MEOESZ) writes, the achievement marks a historic triumph for the country’s breeding and dog ownership community.
The award-winning male dog, with the distinguished pedigree name Bugaboo’s Dream Big With Bottom Shaker “Jack,” competed in the FCI World Challenge for Top Dog category. There, the Old English Sheepdog defeated champions from nearly 60 countries.
By taking first place, he not only secured the day’s victory but also drew worldwide attention from experts as the “most beautiful dog in the world.”
The scale of the competition makes this achievement even more impressive. In total, more than 31,500 purebred dogs from 79 countries participated in this year’s World Dog Show. Hungary reinforced its status as a nation of dog enthusiasts, fielding the fifth-largest group of participants at the event.
Alongside the bobtail’s overall victory, there was also reason to celebrate for traditional Hungarian breeds. The most successful representative of these breeds was the Hungarian short-haired pointing dog Butterfly Hunter Casper, which stood out in the competition.
Casper not only earned the title of the world’s most beautiful Hungarian short-haired pointing dog, but also achieved a milestone in group rankings. He was named the best dog in the entire FCI Group VII (Pointing Dogs and Setters).
In its statement, MEOESZ emphasized that the results of the World Dog Show 2026 once again clearly demonstrate that dogs bred in Hungary and owned by Hungarians belong to the absolute international elite. “These successes are also a well-deserved recognition of the more than 127 years of work of the Hungarian Kennel Club, as well as the professional dedication of Hungarian breeders across generations.”
