President Donald Trump said on Sunday night that the agreement with Iran is “now complete,” announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and that the United States will lift its naval blockade “immediately.”
Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social, shortly after Pakistan announced that the two sides had reached an agreement, “The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone!”
He added, “I fully authorize the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without traffic fees, and at the same time I authorize the immediate lifting of the naval blockade imposed by the United States. O ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
Later, Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened after the agreement was signed on Friday.
Trump added in a post on his Truth Social platform, “This great agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously announced on the X platform that the United States and Iran had reached a “peace agreement” that would immediately end all military operations in the Middle East, including in Lebanon.
He added, “With the agreement now concluded, the mediators will work to facilitate a series of meetings this week,” noting that “these discussions that will precede implementation will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony,” which will be held in the Swiss city of Geneva on June 19.
