On Saturday, Donald Trump’s name was removed from the facade of the Kennedy Center cultural center after a judge in Washington recently decidedthat the president’s name is illegally placed on the institution – writes the Guardian.
According to the judge’s decision, the sign “Donald Trump and” should have been removed by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, but the workers did not get to work until Saturday. The institution had two weeks to comply with the court’s order.
The words in December were placed on the facadeafter the president filled the Kennedy Center’s board of directors with members loyal to him. The cultural center was established by Congress in 1964 in honor of President John F. Kennedy and opened its doors in 1971.
Workers began removing the letters at 2 a.m. and tried to cover their scaffolding so that passers-by could not see the name of the current president being removed from the building. There were also passers-by, several anti-Trump protesters watched the works, which lasted for about half an hour.

The Trump administration asked to keep its name and to close the cultural center for two years for renovations. The judge refused them. Trump then announced that he would let go of the Kennedy Center, which he had taken control of in February after replacing 18 members of the board appointed by Joe Biden and then appointing himself chairman of the committee. The Ministry of Justice tried to appeal twice on Friday, but to the joy of the protesters, the court rejected both.
