Conflict prevention and child protection: Family mediation at the heart of an awareness meeting in Béni Mellal

    Recommendations
The Al Quds Multipurpose Social Center in Béni Mellal hosted, Friday June 12, 2026, an awareness-raising meeting around the theme “Family mediation and positive parenting: social, psychological, legal and religious approaches”, at the initiative of the Al Amane Association for the support and empowerment of families and children in difficult situations in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region. This meeting brought together an audience of academics, experts, institutional actors and people interested in issues related to family and childhood.

The work of this event began with the welcome of the participants, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and the playing of the national anthem. In her opening speech, the president of the Al Amane Association, Hafida Assim, stressed that the organization of this meeting is part of efforts to promote the culture of dialogue within the family and to strengthen family mediation mechanisms as an effective tool for conflict prevention and protection of children against the repercussions of family disintegration.
The inaugural session was also marked by interventions from representatives of partner institutions. On this occasion, the Deputy Regional Director of National Cooperation highlighted the essential role played by social protection establishments and associations in supporting families and supporting them in the face of various social challenges.
The work of the meeting was punctuated by several specialized scientific interventions. Aziza Kharazi, teacher at Sultan Moulay Slimane University, addressed the issue of complementarity between family mediation and social action, emphasizing the need to adopt participatory professional approaches guaranteeing the effectiveness of interventions for the benefit of families.

For his part, psychologist and therapist Mohammed Azmaoune presented a paper devoted to positive parenting and its impact on the psychological and social balance of children. He highlighted the importance of adopting educational methods based on dialogue, listening and effective communication within the family unit. In a statement on the sidelines of this meeting, Dr Azmaoune indicated that family mediation constitutes both a preventive and curative mechanism, insofar as it contributes to limiting the aggravation of family conflicts and preserving the psychological balance of children, often the first victims of tensions within the family. He added that promoting the culture of positive education and dialogue between parents and children has become a societal necessity in the face of accelerated social changes.

For her part, Aziza Rannal, representative of the Superior Council of Ulemas of Béni Mellal, emphasized the religious dimension of family mediation, affirming that the values of reconciliation, tolerance and understanding advocated by Islam constitute a solid foundation for the preservation of family stability and cohesion. Speaking in turn, Mustapha Menali, member of the Béni Mellal bar, presented the legal aspects linked to child protection, reviewing the different legislative and institutional mechanisms guaranteeing the preservation of children’s rights and their protection.

In a statement to the press, Mr. Menali stressed that child protection is a collective responsibility shared between the family, institutions and civil society, recalling that national legislation provides a set of legal guarantees intended to ensure the protection of children. He also noted that family mediation today constitutes one of the preferred means of amicable resolution of family disputes, in the best interests of the child and while respecting family stability. The meeting saw sustained interaction from the public through an open debate on several issues related to family conflicts and the mechanisms for their management. The work concluded with a series of recommendations calling for the expansion of family awareness programs, the strengthening of psychological, social and legal support services, as well as the promotion of the culture of mediation as a civilizational option contributing to the building of a united family and a more stable society.
This initiative demonstrates the continued commitment of the Al Amane Association and its partners to support the family and children, as well as the consolidation of community awareness of the importance of dialogue and family mediation as an essential lever for conflict prevention and the promotion of sustainable social development.
