    “They are putting a tombstone on my head,” declared the sectional leader when attending a decentralized session of the Nariño Departmental Assembly, which was held in the municipality of Sandoná, in western Nariño.

    ‘I am innocent’

    “The media woke up today with an accusation from former President Uribe, who I am going to demand, of course, the accusation of an anonymous person,” he said in his speech.

    He also maintained, “the governor of Nariño is innocent” and stated that he will seek the support of all the people of Nariño.

    Escobar defended himself by emphasizing that he is an honorable man, a university professor with more than 26 years of experience.

    “Without a doubt, no one who knows me can believe that the governor of the department of Nariño could enter into a conspiracy to generate an assassination which we have completely rejected,” he assured.
