Geneva (Switzerland), June 11, 2026 (SPS) – The Swiss Labor Party organized a meeting devoted to the Sahrawi labor experience, in light of the path of the General Union of Saguia El Hamra and Oued Eddahab Workers, at a station that culminated in the Sahrawi participation in the work of the 114th session of the International Labor Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Secretary-General of the General Union of Sahrawi Workers, Mr. Nafi Ahmed Mohamed, reviewed the path of resistance union struggle under the occupation, addressing the challenges faced by Sahrawi labor bodies, such as the Sahrawi Committee for arbitrarily expelled employees and workers, the Coordination of Phosboucraa Pensioners, the Sahrawi Association for the Control of Wealth and Environmental Protection, and the movement of the unemployed, noting the seriousness of the occupation’s violations of the civil, basic, social and economic rights of the Sahrawi people. .
The speaker referred to the Sahrawi labor experience, providing an overview of the workers’ union, its extensions, and its efforts to defend the rights of the Sahrawi people, stressing that the only way to end the suffering of the Sahrawis, including the working class, lies in empowering them with the right to self-determination and independence.
The facilitator of the meeting, Mr. Alexander Inlini, co-chair of the party, reviewed the traditional solidarity positions of his body in support of the Sahrawi issue and just causes throughout the world, stressing the importance of the meeting in gaining greater insight into developments in the Sahrawi issue and the labor experience in particular. In turn, the Vice-President of the Swiss Labor Party, Mr. Jawad Siad, renewed his party’s position in support of the just struggle of the Sahrawi people, stressing his warmth to the Sahrawi labor delegation and the trade union solidarity movement. Highlighting the great bet on unions in order to consolidate the values of justice and respect for international legitimacy in the face of the challenges facing today’s world.
The meeting, which was attended by the representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland and the UN institutions in Geneva, Ms. Injat Hendi, the head of the Sahrawi Observatory for Monitoring Natural Resources in Western Sahara, Ms. Yaqouta Al-Makhttar, representatives of unions from several countries, members of the Swiss Friendship Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, and interested parties, witnessed interventions on the struggle of the Sahrawi people and the trade union role in defending the Sahrawi issue and the just struggle of its people for freedom and independence.
The participants stressed the necessity of strengthening the mechanisms for advocating for the Sahrawi issue and intensifying media efforts in order to make more public the just Sahrawi issue and its developments, especially at the level of trade union circles around the world.
