To 15 minutes contacted reader Asta, who said that if she needed to change her passport, the state system did not allow her to register for a visit in time, so she was forced to choose – either pay almost 200 euros for making a passport in one day, or risk not getting the document before the trip.
However, the Migration Department assures that this procedure has been in effect for more than two years, is publicly announced, and the system itself has worked.
Tried to register in advance, but could not find free seats
Asta (real name known to the editors), who needed to change her passport before her planned trip on June 16, wanted to get a new document on time, and was going to use the service provided in an urgent manner, when the passport is produced in five working days. Such a service costs 100 euros.
However, when registering online in Vilnius, the nearest free visit time was offered only on June 11. “In other words, the state registration system did not give me the opportunity to visit and use this service on time,” said the woman.
As the situation was urgent, Asta decided not to risk it and went straight to the Migration Department. However, only after arriving there did she learn that passport production within 5 working days is only possible for pre-registered persons.
“After waiting for more than an hour, the specialist listened to my situation and her first question was whether I was a disabled person or a person with other benefits. When I answered no, it was explained to me that the production of a passport within 5 working days is only possible for pre-registered persons (well, and, I guess, those with state benefits). Since I did not have registration, I was offered only one option – the production of a passport within 1 working day for almost 200 euros,” said the reader.
