The map of Türkiye is changing: Here are the 25 districts that will be made provinces with the bill proposal

Preparations for the bill regarding the establishment of 25 new provinces have begun.

It is expected that action will be taken before the elections for the project, which MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli announced as “100 provinces, 1000 districts in the 100th year” in 2023, and which is also supported by the AKP.

No legislative proposal has been made on this issue yet. However, it is planned to take steps in this regard according to the election calendar.

The new provinces will consist of districts that meet conditions such as population density of at least 100 thousand people, distance of at least 30 kilometers from the city center, economic development and transportation infrastructure.

Alanya, the capital of tourism (Population: 371 thousand 547)

    THE NUMBER WILL BE 106

With 25 districts becoming provinces, the number of provinces will increase to 106. 2 new provinces will emerge from Antalya and Balıkesir. 3 million 535 thousand 454 people still live in 25 districts. Alanya district of Antalya, where 372 thousand people live, and Tarsus district of Mersin, where 358 thousand people live, have a higher population than some provinces.

    HERE ARE THOSE DISTRICTS

The provinces of the districts, which started with Aksaray in 1989, continued until 1999, and the number of provinces increased from 67 to 81. The 25 districts planned to be made into provinces are as follows:

Alanya (Antalya), Tarsus (Mersin), Çorlu (Tekirdağ), İnegöl (Bursa), Siverek (Şanlıurfa), Manavgat (Antalya), İskenderun (Hatay), Fethiye (Muğla), Akhisar (Manisa), Edremit (Balıkesir), Ereğli (Zonguldak), Erciş (Van), Bandırma (Balıkesir), Cizre (Şırnak), Nazilli (Aydın), Ereğli (Konya), Lüleburgaz (Kırklareli), Ergani (Diyarbakır), Kahta (Adıyaman), Ünye (Ordu), Kozan (Adana), Elbistan (K.maraş), Polatlı (Ankara), Midyat (Mardin) and Yüksekova (Hakkari).

Grain warehouse Siverek (Population: 277 thousand 399)

THERE IS A PLAN FOR BOTH OF THEM TO BECOME A PROVINCE, BUT…

A new name for one of the two Ereğli districts:

Among the provinces that are considered to be made into a province are both the Ereğli district of Zonguldak, with a population of 173 thousand, and the Ereğli district of Konya, where 158 thousand people live. This is where the problem starts.

    Add as source

If both Ereğli districts are made a province, changing the name of one of them will be on the agenda. However, no decision has been made as to which Ereğli’s name will be changed and how. While the bill proposal studies are ongoing, it is a matter of curiosity how this problem will be solved. Both Zonguldak’s Ereğli district and Konya’s Ereğli district do not want to give up their own names. What kind of solution will be found on this issue will be understood after the proposal is prepared and presented to the Parliament.

Iron-steel and ship industry zone Zonguldak Ereğli (Population: 173 thousand)

    NO ONE WANTS NUMBER 100

The number of provinces in Türkiye, which was 67 until 1999, is now 81. With the establishment of 25 new provinces, this number will increase to 106. However, there is concern in the districts waiting to become a province. No province wants to buy license plate number 100. One of the problems that will challenge those who prepared the proposal is expected to be the province number 100.

    STATEMENT MADE

A statement came from the Center for Combating Disinformation on the subject. The following statements were included in the statement:

The claims shared in some media outlets and social media accounts that “25 new provinces will be established” do not reflect the truth.

There is currently no work planned or carried out for the establishment of new provinces.

These allegations aim to create public perception and manipulation by creating artificial agendas. Our citizens are kindly requested to only consider the statements made by official authorities.
