MEBeco electric drive
The government’s goal is to create a level playing field and, under equal conditions, support those companies that can generate real added value for Europe and Hungary, the Minister of Economy and Energy emphasized on Thursday in Győr (northwestern Hungary) at the launch of Audi Hungaria Zrt.’s new MEBeco electric drive series production.
István Kapitány emphasized that they are working to create a transparent, fair, and corruption-free free market economy for all Hungarian and foreign companies that wish to manufacture and create value in Hungary.
He cited Audi Hungaria as an example, noting that with the launch of MEBeco’s mass production, Hungary’s technical expertise and engineering knowledge can continue to develop.
The minister expressed his delight that the company is further expanding its operations in Hungary and indicated that the government will provide every possible assistance to this end. He also noted that, thanks to this development, Hungary plays a significant role in electric vehicle manufacturing in Europe.
Kapitány noted that one of the government’s commitments is to develop the Hungarian economy in partnership with foreign investors who truly ensure that the value of the Hungarian workforce and its retention are realized at the highest possible level within a value chain.
He added that this has been the case with Audi; every single product development by the company demonstrates that it thinks of Hungary “just as we do,” and this cooperation is important for the industry.
Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria, stated that the launch of MEBeco series production is crucial for the next phase of the Volkswagen Group’s transition to electric vehicles and also serves as a sign of Audi Hungaria’s role within the Group.
He noted that powertrain production in Győr dates back thirty years and that the company has been manufacturing electric motors for eight years.
Peter Will, a member of the Audi Hungaria Board of Directors responsible for powertrain production, stated that the production area spans 33,000 square meters and was built at a cost of 350 million euros (130 billion forints).
Audi Hungaria Zrt. announced that the MEBeco motor will first be installed in the Cupra Raval model. The goal is to ramp up production from a single shift to up to three shifts.

The project began in 2022, and construction of the manufacturing infrastructure started in 2024. The company received 22.5 million euros (7.886 billion forints) in government subsidies for the investment.
Győr-based Audi Hungaria Zrt. is a member of the Audi Group and the central engine supplier for the Audi and Volkswagen Groups. Last year, it generated revenue of 9.222 billion euros (3,224.1 billion forints), with a net profit of 368 million euros (128.6 billion forints). Last year, the company invested 375 million euros (131.1 billion forints) in new technologies. In 2025, it produced 1,585,290 powertrains, of which 264,871 were electric powertrains, and 200,756 vehicles rolled off the assembly line.
