In the midst of a new and strong escalation of verbal attacks against journalists and the media, the government of Javier Milei Today he banned accredited journalists from accessing the Casa Rosada. In this way, it restricted their professional tasks to about 60 journalists who attend the official headquarters every day. The measure could be extended until tomorrow, according to official sources.
As confirmed by government sources THE NATIONthe ban covers all media outlets that have journalists working daily at Balcarce 50. The reasons given are two: the need to deepen the investigation into an alleged Russian infiltration of press media, for which journalists from seven media outlets had their entry into the room restricted for more than two weeks, and the criminal complaint against two journalists from the Todo Noticias channel for alleged illegal espionage, after footage of the corridors and interiors of the Government House became known in that medium.
“It was decided to remove the fingerprints of journalists accredited preventively for illegal espionage,” official sources stated. And they made the continuity of the permits conditional until the legal case against the TN journalists progresses.
“The extension of the 2025 accreditation has been rescinded, and until the issue of the videos is clarified, no journalist will be allowed entry,” the Government sources added, although they have not yet issued an official statement.
Through social networks, Javier Lanariin charge of the press and official communication, stated: “The decision to remove the fingerprints of accredited Casa Rosada journalists was taken preventively in response to Casa Militar’s complaint for illegal espionage. The only purpose is to guarantee national security.”
This is a measure with little precedent. The journalists’ room at the Casa Rosada remained open during democratic periods, and even during de facto governments.
The restriction occurs just today, when Milei has a scheduled agenda at the Casa Rosada. The President will receive the American businessman this afternoon Peter Thielone of the most influential in Silicon Valley and with a strong presence in the technology and military industry in the United States and other countries. Thiel is an ally of Donald Trump.
Yesterday, the Government, through the Military House, the joint body in charge of the custody of the Casa Rosada and the official residence of Olivos, criminally denounced two journalists of the TN television signal.
It was after a film made inside the government headquarters was released. For the authorities there could be crimes linked to the disclosure of political and military secrets and issues related to national security.
The Military House depends on the General Secretariat of the Presidency, in charge of Karina Mileibut from the headquarters of government they pointed out that the decision to file the complaint was made directly by those responsible for the area, headed by Brigadier General, Sebastian Ibanez.
While the president, Javier Mileitraveling in Israel when the material was published, echoed what happened through the networks. “DIGUSTING GARBAGE. I would love to see those filthy garbage who carry journalists’ credentials (95%) come out to defend what these two criminals did. I hope this reaches the highest officials. CIAO!”, the president wrote this Wednesday afternoon on his account on the social network X, where he has been chaining insults against different journalists.
The complaint, to which he had access THE NATIONwas made after the broadcast of the program, last Sunday, “And tomorrow what”, hosted by Luciana Geunain which different common use areas of the government palace were shown.
The presentation fell by lot in federal court No. 4, Comodoro Py, in charge of the judge Ariel Lijo. The complaint was made by Ibáñez and consists of nine pages.
In addition to Geuna, the accusation reached Ignacio Salernoa journalist accredited by TN at the Casa Rosada, whose accreditation was suspended, at least momentarily, according to what he learned. THE NATION.
The complaint states that “an effort is made to inform the judicial authority of the deployment of surreptitious and illegal activities within the Government House.” And it is alluded to that, “under mere pretexts of public interest, the accused journalists boasted of having circumvented presidential security, which exposed officials to unjustified risks and, probably, created the conditions for revealing state secrets related to the President’s routine and the functioning of the National Executive Branch.”
For the Casa Militar authorities, “the interference, displayed recklessly on television and social networks, grossly deviated from the applicable regulations,” after which they cited Resolution 1319 from last year of the Ministry of Communication and Media. And that it is also “about the standards of good professional practice corresponding to the work of the chroniclers accredited at the Casa Rosada.”
