You usually consult the printed edition of PÚBLICO in our website? Then this text is for you. Starting next Tuesday, the 27th, the view of the printed edition (a kind of PDF of the newspaper) will change. The service will continue to be provided by Press Reader, as it has been until now, but there are some new features.
What will change?
Essentially there is an update to the service which, in addition to allowing you to view the newspaper page by page (as if you were browsing a PDF) as before, also now has a kind of microsite where all news from the printed edition is available in HTML, without paper pagination, but with hierarchy online. Page navigation is done with the mouse, clicking on the side arrows (or dragging the cursor). You will also be able to browse through “Sections” (the option appears on the left below) or do the preview of the entire newspaper continuously by clicking on the “Pages” option.
What are the biggest news?
In addition to the aforementioned microsite With the news from the paper edition in HTML format (in the center, you have to choose the “Text View” option), you will be able to listen to the articles you want, translate them into several languages or receive an alert every time a new edition of PÚBLICO is available. You can also change the font (size and font) according to your desire, make adjustments to the width, read two pages side by side or make zoom.
What languages are available for translation?
Content translation (only in the “Text View”) is available in 34 languages, including German, Bulgarian, Bengali, Spanish, English, French, Swedish, Turkish, Chinese or Japanese.
How to access the new e-reader?
Access is in the same place as always: 1) you can click on “Print Edition”, at the top left of our Homepage node websiteor in the bottom bar in the application, just below the date; 2) you can choose one of the four buttons that appear before the headline (we call it highlights from the top of the page); or 3) you can type https://www.publico.pt/jornal and end up directly at e-reader.
Do I have to do anything to access this new feature?
You don’t need to do anything. Change does not imply making download of any application. Just access it in the usual way.
