Mrs. Amphone Phanalat, a vendor at Wat Si Muang in Sisattanak District, shared her experience with journalists on April 14. She said she sets up her stall at the temple every year during the festival, as it is a major destination for both local residents and international visitors who come to make merit and take part in the ritual cleansing of Buddha images.
A wide range of offerings is available, including maak beng (banana leaf and marigold arrangements) in 3, 5, 7, and 9 tiers starting from 20,000 kip, khan 5 ritual trays, ceremonial candles, sangkhathan (alms offerings for monks), and bathing robes.
A key highlight is the scented water used in the traditional hote song ritual. The mixture typically includes clean water, perfume, kaffir lime, and fresh flowers. Devotees use the water to bathe Buddha statues while praying for good health, peace, and prosperity in the coming year.
Mrs. Amphone noted that the atmosphere has been bustling since the first day of the festival, reflecting strong public participation in longstanding traditions.
Visitors planning to make merit at Wat Si Muang can find these offerings available through April 16. On regular days and Buddhist holy days, the vendor also operates from her home located directly in front of the temple.
